Create amazing Furniture with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint

Spread the love

When I picked up these coffee tables I just knew they would need a good coat of dixie belle chalk mineral paint and something else! I don’t know about you, but my girls LOVE mermaids. One of my youngest daughters favorite characters is hands down Ariel from the little mermaid. She even met her when we went to Disney as well. We totally rope dropped dropped it to be one of the first to meet her for the day.

Now you see exactly why I want a photo staging area 🙂

Anywho, I purchased this redesign with prima image transfer about a year ago. I had planned on using it on a chest of drawer, or armor. However, I had yet to come acr;oss the “perfect” one to use it on. Plus, I was a little timid on using my first transfer on a piece with an uneven surface. When I found this trio I just knew it would be perfect!

Material List

These didn’t need any sanding or repair work so I got to skip it this time!

First Step: Cleaning

I won these babies from an auction and they were filthy. To clean them I used Dixie Belle White lightening cleaner. I keep this cleaner in a spray bottle which makes it super easy to use for me.

Next: Prime

Next Up I did a layer of Dixie Belle Boss in White. These were going from dark wood to light. I wanted to save paint (and time) so I did two layers of BOSS. The good thing about it is it also covers smoke smell as well. Priming gives you a good base to start. It also helps with longevity as well. A good piece that lasts a lifetime isn’t just how it’s painted at the surface, proper prep work is just as important

Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint to the rescue!

Once Sealed, It’s time for panting! I did two coats of Dixie Belles Chalk Mineral Paint in Fluff. It’s such a soft white. I always tell people its a smooth creamy soft white, and it’s true! If you’re looking for a white that’s not too white this is it! These tables were already looking a lot better with just some paint!

Redesign with Prima outdid themselves on this mermaid!

Add a little wow factor

Next Up, I attached my image transfer to my coffee table. This took me a billion years. I’ll have a video posted later on how this was applied, but you have to make sure to burnish your image into your table. Aka, it means rub the image transfer onto the table so it transfers from the paper to your table. It is WORTH the effort though!

Did you know Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint makes sealers?

Finally, you have to SEAL the Redesign by Prima transfer so it sticks on permanently. Also, I wanted to make sure these WHITE tables had a good seal on them so if someone needed to clean them, they could. I did three coats over this whole thing. I used dixie belle chalk mineral paint “Stain” top coat. Which gives the chalk paint almost a stain appearance and makes it feel a bit smoother. I LOVE using it, just make sure not to over work it.

I absolutely LOVE how these turned out! If we needed coffee tables I would have likely kept these in our house. I kind of wish I had kept this and used it on a chest of drawer now, however, this gave me a good feel for just how easy these are to apply. I will definitely be ordering more!
